                                     about Joy

Joy Green top.JPG

Since graduating from Chelsea School of Art, I've worked in many areas of art and design, from book jacket illustration, murals and CD covers to abstract, figurative and illustrative painting.

When a Radio Three producer asked me to paint an image for a CD cover, I listened carefully to the music to understand the feelings it evoked. The music was bright and clear and seemed to call for a different approach. As I began to pour fluid acrylic paint randomly over watercolour paper, layers of colour, shape and tone developed, resulting in a series of paintings that are on permanent exhibition at the Watford School of Music. They are a celebration of life, music and colour.

My figurative works are mythical. As well as drawing from the life model, I'm also inspired by ancient sculptures and classical paintings: Poussin, Lorenzetti and Rembrandt as I endeavour to create an 'other world', that reflects moods and atmospheres in my imagination.

My work has been used by the NSPCC, RSO Records, Harmoniemusik and Hackney Council. A tutor in Life Drawing for several years, I am also an experienced art coach and mentor.

My work can be seen at Saatchi Art and the Watford School of Music. In 2018, my paintings were exhibited at the Chianciano Biennale.
